A study was undertaken to assess whether patients with diarrhoea, lose or acquire intestinal flora resistant to the common antimicrobial agents after oral rehydration and hospitalization. There was no significant difference between the number of strains of each species of enterobacteria isolated from 26 samples of stool admission and 26 discharge stools. More strains resistant to tetracycline alone were isolated from discharge specimens than admission ones. However, Esch. coli strains resistant toampicillioj cfrloramphenicol and tetracycline were almost equally isolated from both admission and discharge specimens. On the other hand, more Klebsiella and* other species'bearing such multiple resistance were isolated from.discharge specimens' than admission, ones. Early1 control of' the occurrence of Klebsiella resistant to multi-antibiotics through periodic screening of the source and other measures, is advocated.en
